Changing Prepositions
Two-way prepositions that take Dativ for location and Akkusativ for direction.
Wechselpräpositionen (two-way prepositions) can take either the dative case (for fixed location - WHERE?) or the accusative case (for movement toward a destination - WHERE TO?). The nine two-way prepositions are: an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen.
• an - at / on (border)
• auf - on top of / at (surface)
• hinter - behind
• in - in / into
• neben - next to
• über - over / above
• unter - under
• vor - in front of / before
• zwischen - between
